The Women Techsters Program Took Me from Accounting to Building a Company’s Entire Security Unit from Scratch

Changing careers can mean starting over in an entirely new field. For me, Women Techsters Program created an opportunity to make that transition.

I began my professional career in Accounting and Operations, but I was hungry for growth and determined to unlock my potential in a new field. My journey with Women Techsters started with the Women Techsters Open Day, progressed through the Women Techsters Bootcamp, and culminated in the Fellowship, where I was accepted into the Cybersecurity track.

The Fellowship gave me the opportunity to develop the skills and confidence to transition into cybersecurity. I went on to secure a role as a Security Analyst, beginning a specialised professional path that has opened doors to global visibility and advanced cloud learning opportunities.

The experience was also an opportunity to develop as a leader. Serving as the Class Representative was a true honour. It allowed me to connect deeply with my peers while strengthening my leadership skills and taking on responsibility within my cohort.

One of the milestones I am most proud of came early in my cybersecurity career, when I was trusted with the responsibility of building a cybersecurity unit from the ground up at an organisation.

It was a massive challenge at that stage of my career. Taking full ownership of the project pushed me to develop deep grit, high agency, and critical problem-solving skills. More importantly, it proved to me what I was capable of achieving.

That foundation of growth and agency has continued to shape my journey. I was later accepted into a Master’s degree program in Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence, further developing my expertise in the field I had transitioned into.

Looking back, I am proud of the distance between where I started and where I am today. I moved from Accounting and Operations into cybersecurity, became a Security Analyst, took on the challenge of building a cybersecurity unit from scratch, and earned admission into a Master’s program in Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence.

For me, Women Techsters created the opportunity to make a career transition and discover what was possible when I was given the chance to grow, take ownership, and build in a new field.
